You go through the mistake, because just beyond is possibly a moment of brilliance.
Roddy Chong, an inspirational musician and speaker, applied the 10X Rule to launch into a musical journey that has led him to amazing achievements.
This is an excerpt from his web page.
Roddy Chong is a remarkably accomplished Asian American violinist and speaker known for his high-energy performances with many of the music industry’s most recognized acts. He is considered to be one of the world’s premier violinists. For a season, Roddy toured with Shania Twain and Celine Dion at the same time. He has performed for audiences around the world, including the President of the United States, the Queen of England, the Pope, Oprah and countless other notable figures.
However, Roddy’s real resume begins much closer to the heart—in the pursuit for accelerated life performance, purpose, and a mission to help others push the boundaries of potential.
We start out with this, a piece of the 10X Rule.
Ch 8 Pg 66 “People overestimate how well things will go and then underestimate how much effort it will take to push things through. You cannot train or prepare for normal amounts of resistance or market conditions. prepare for massive action, and you will win.”
As a kid he played violin, and one thing he would notice was that he would be playing and then BAM, hits a wrong note. As he talked with his music teacher about this, they would just write it off and tell him that no one noticed. That did not settle well with Roddy, because he knew that he noticed and was not giving a good performance.
“It’s not because nobody noticed that you go through a mistake, you go through a mistake, because just beyond the mistake might be a custom made moment of brilliance.” – Roddy Chong
One really key thing that Roddy hit on during his presentation was about pushing through mistakes. In the picture above, you see a drawn out diagram of this. You see, on your journey in life you will be going down a road, and all of sudden something happens. You fail. You fall short. You stumble. You make mistakes. It happens, and will always continue to happen. How you respond to it when it does happen, is important.
This is what I learned
You have two choices. One: You can go through the mistake (very few people do this) Two: You can keep starting over, cementing the mistake, never moving forward (the most common choice)
Roddy explains that when you go through the mistake, there may be a custom made moment of brilliance. You see, if you never move through the mistake, you will never move forward. Your dreams, your goals, your aspirations, will never be achieved.
If you 10X your mindset and actions, move through the mistake, you will find something incredible happen. Roddy explains it like this.
“10X is not just for your goals. It’s also for building your character, courage, and discipline.” – Roddy Chong
Stuck in the mistake
We can be stuck in the mistake sometimes. When we make mistakes, all of a sudden the negative thoughts begin to cloud our vision. We start thinking small, conservatively, holding ourselves back. You cannot grow by staying stuck. Push through it, go beyond it, 10X your mindset and you will find what might be the greatest opportunity of your life. There may not always be a moment of brilliance on the other side, but I guarantee you will never have that custom made moment of brilliance, if you stay in the mistake, repeating the mistake, never pushing through.
“Don’t think, just do” – Roddy Chong
Use the 10X principles to help you push through the mistake. When you hit that mistake, and there’s a moment of fear, use that fear as an indicator of what you should do. Push through it.
When an opportunity doesn’t show up at your door, you show up at its door. Over promise what you can accomplish, over commit, and then over deliver on your performance. BURN THE PLACE DOWN!
“When you feel like to you need to go, move TAKE ACTION” – Roddy Chong
Roddy Chong is a very passionate, very inspiring, and extremely talented! It was incredible to see him perform and speak. I also really appreciated the moment he took to allow me to get a picture with him. He is an amazing example of what the power of 10X thoughts and actions can accomplish.
